Description
Climavent 4kw/5.5hp wet type dust control plant is designed to cope with the heavy burden of flammable dust from grinding, fettling, linishing, polishing and trimming applications. It is an efficient and effective way of disposing of those obnoxious fumes which arise within the workplace.
The unit is a self contained wet dust scrubber that generates a self induced solid water curtain that entraps and washes the dirty air removing any contaminates as it passes through.
Typical applications include any dust laden air-stream that may carry sparks such as from grinding and fettling operations and where the type of dusts may be governed under the ATEX regulations whereby explosive dust are generated within such operations or processes as shot blasting and machining of aluminium, magnesium or any other white metal components.
Wet Collectors are able to draw the dust-laden air through a tank of water ensuring heavy dust particles are thrown directly into the water and settle as sludge in the base of the unit for subsequent removal.
Air and light dust are drawn over the surface of the water and scrubbing assembly turn the air and entrained water, wetting even the finest of dust particles. A series of baffles removes the wetted dust and clean air is discharged from the top of the unit back into the works atmosphere.
The wet dust exhaust units are renowned for their robustness, as unlike many other units, there are no moving parts filters or sprays to contend with. This allows them to maintain their original suction rates, even under the most arduous of conditions.
More than one LW22P wet collector unit can be arranged in parallel which provides filtration for larger centralised systems.
Climavent’s LW22P unit has a non-corrosive GRP (glass reinforced plastic) body with stainless steel internal scrubbing components and if serviced on a regular basis, will provide many years of efficient extraction. This eradicates the common problem associated with wet dust exhaust units – the metal enclosure and internal components can often start to corrode after a period of time.
Including in the design are a self contained silencer, water make up box, 4kW fan and fan starter, duct Inlet of Ø300mm and having an approx. service duty of 2500cfm.

What is Wet Dust Extraction
For light, sticky or combustible dust, wet dust extractors are the safest and COSHH approved method for filtering. By applying water to air via various types of wet dust extracting methods, the dampened dust is separated by gravity, removing it from the air.
The safety factor of wet extraction that makes it suitable for explosive dusts is by wetting the dust, the water acts as a coating between the dust and oxygen in the air, preventing the dust from potentially igniting.
Importance of Dust Extractors
Dust in the workplace can affect product quality and employee´s health. Having a dust-free environment is essential to the health and safety of the workforce. Not only does it affect the health of employees but the dust covers the equipment affecting production processes and quality of the products.
Capturing the dust at the source prevents it from spreading, done by using a dust extractor system to facilitate the important housekeeping to avoid it from accumulating.
Factors to Consider for Your Next Dust Extractor
When implementing the safety measures to ensure minimal risk to your workers, the factors to consider when purchasing your extraction unit/system are:
- Dust Source - Does the process that produces dust occur in an enclosed or open area?
- Capacity - Does the extractor have a large enough filter area required to handle the volume of dust?
- Type of Dust – Do you need an extractor capable of handling dust at risk of self-igniting?
- Maintenance – Would a self-cleaning extractor with an automatic shaker cycle be more suitable for you?
For further guidance, find out how to carry out your own COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) risk assessment at the HSE website to help calculate your requirements.
